Tax Senior Manager
This role will focus on corporate wide product tax issues. This
includes tax reporting for our annuity products, tax compliance for our life
insurance products (7702 and 7702A), tax implications for non-qualified pension
plans, monitoring industry tax reporting issues and other company tax
objectives. This role will require interaction with all our strategic business
units, guiding our company’s product tax policies and playing a leading role in
tax-based projects and initiatives. This corporate finance role will work
closely with product managers, actuaries and our legal team to promote industry
best practices and strengthen our compliance procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
• Partner with the
policyholder tax reporting personnel on questions arising out of 1035
exchanges, change of ownership on life insurance and annuities, transfer for
value questions, etc.
• Responsibility to see that
product tax issues (7702 and 7702 A) are addressed when any new life insurance
products are developed (including managing tax disclosures in illustrations and
notices when policies are identified as MECs)
• Ownership of product review
process for tax related issues
o Establish
product review gates
o
Review historical product portfolio
• Identify income tax issues
associated with our individual life and annuity products
• Monitor industry
developments so that we are keeping pace with new guidance from the IRS and
changes in industry practices
• Review all advertising and
marketing materials with statements about income taxes
• Track developments of new
products in all areas to review for tax issues that need to be addressed.
• Responsible for ongoing
FATCA compliance
• Responsible for consulting
on 1099 Reporting

Job Requirements:
1. Undergraduate degree in accounting,
actuarial science, statistics, mathematics or a related field or equivalent
professional related work experience.
2. Master’s degree in Taxation, JD in
Taxation or designation as CPA or CFA, FSA or FCAS Level or equivalent
preferred.
3. Ten-plus years of experience in a
tax and/or actuarial setting with progressive responsibilities.
4. Broad knowledge of insurance
operations, products and emerging issues.
5. Ability to communicate technical
concepts to non-technical audiences.
6. Ability to interact with other
functional areas as required.
7. Ability to pay attention to
detail, produce accurate results and develop self-validation skills.
8. Strong organization and time
management skills.
9. Ability to handle multiple
priorities and tight deadlines.
10. Ability to work independently or as
part of a team.
11. Ability to develop and use
collaborative relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals.
